Homemade Ketchup

Within the last few days, my son has decided that everything is better if it is slathered in “Dip, dip”. So, I am constantly on the hunt for  healthy and delicious dip ideas! Last night I decided to make this Healthy Homemade Ketchup and it did not disappoint! He LOVED it! And it tastes very similar to real ketchup! The most exciting part? It is FULL of healthy ingredients. One being Pureed Carrots! So if you want a great way to sneak in some veggies try out this “Trick Your Picky Eater-Healthy, Homemade Ketchup”! It is delicious and couldn’t be any easier to make!

Ingredients:

ketchupingredients

6 ounces (1 can) tomato puree

1/2 cup carrot puree. (I used canned carrots and pureed them. For quick and easy carrot puree you can use baby food!)

2 Tbs apple cider vinegar

1 large garlic clove, minced well

1 Tbs brown sugar, firmly packed

1/2 tsp dry mustard

1/4 tsp salt

1/4 tsp ground allspice

1/2 tsp Chili Powder

Directions:

  1. Combine all ingredients together in a large saucepan. Make sure the carrots are well pureed so you don’t have chunks!
  2. Bring to a boil over low-high heat
  3. Reduce heat and simmer for about 10-15 minutes
  4. Let cool before serving
  5. Refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 5 days. (Or, freeze in ice cube trays for up to three months! Simply thaw and use when needed!)

This is a great recipe! I’ve been looking for a home made ketchup recipe for awhile. Is it possible to leave the sugar out? That’s one of my biggest qualms with the organic store bought ketchup.
